Dana Magee, RD, LD, CLT

Empowered Eating Program Nutritionist

Dana is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who provides individual nutrition counseling sessions with the mission to rebuild her clients’ relationship with food.  Dana specializes in working with clients struggling with binge eating and/or emotional eating. Dana also has the unique skill set to help clients manage their digestive issues that may contribute to their fears around certain foods.  Dana has done extensive training in the field of eating disorders and integrative nutrition.  Dana has also been featured in the Gurze Catalog for eating disorder resources as coauthor of the “Taste the Sweet REBELLION: REBEL Against Dieting Workbook”, as an expert on the ED Matters Podcast, and as a speaker to both the community and to other healthcare professionals.

Dana’s goal is to help her clients sort through nutrition myths and improve their nutrition knowledge, create healthy habits, and better their overall quality of life.  Dana teaches her clients the skills to build awareness around their eating behaviors, banish food rules, conquer food fears, and work towards becoming an intuitive eater where they use their bodies hunger and fullness cues to guide their eating.  Dana helps her clients create balance, variety, flexibility, moderation and pleasure into their eating habits.  To further support her clients, Dana uses the Recovery Record iPhone/Android application to stay in touch outside of their nutrition appointments.  She is also author to various blog posts on the Empowered Eating blog. Dana prioritizes working along with the treatment team to help her clients achieve faster and sustainable success and often coordinates with her clients’ physician, therapist, family and other team members.

Many of Dana’s clients may have been on the dieting roller coaster and have experienced some weight loss only to gain it back and more, not to mention more stress from watching the number on the scale.  The research shows that dieting just does not work. Dieting brings the dieter further away from their nutrition and health goals and promotes disordered eating.  Whether you have been a lifetime dieter or have just begun to experiment with dieting Dana can help you to nourish your body, improve your health, and limit your stress around food.  

Dana sees clients for overeating, Binge Eating Disorder, restrictive eating, emotional eating, PCOS, diabetes, and digestive wellness.

Dana is a member of the Association for Size Diversity and Health. She is also a board member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Behavioral Health Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group and a member of the  Nutrition Entrepreneurs Dietetic Practice Group.  Dana also started a mastermind group with other eating disorder Registered Dietitian Nutritionists which meets monthly to support each other and share new resources.  Outside of working with Empowered Eating, Dana enjoys cooking, being outside, exploring new restaurants, boating, and spending time with her friends and family.
